The LDS Church has had a presence on the UVU
campus since the school’s founding in 1941. The current LDS Institute of
Religion building, which is adjacent to the UVU campus, will be torn
down and replaced with a new, state-of-the-art facility.
The new
institute will include classrooms, a library, a computer lab, and a
multipurpose room. It will also have a garden and outdoor gathering
spaces.
The UVIR will serve LDS students who attend UVU, as well
as other colleges and universities in the Utah Valley area. It will
offer classes on a variety of topics, including religion, family
history, and the arts.
The institute will be open to all
students, regardless of their religious affiliation. LDS Church leaders
hope that the UVIR will be a place where students of all faiths can come
together to learn and grow.
